Strengthening Gender Equity in Public Service: Highlights from the April 2025 National Gender Diversity Taskforce Meeting

On April 8, 2025, the National Gender Diversity Taskforce, supported by EPL Ghana,
convened to assess progress on gender equity initiatives across the Civil Service.
The meeting provided a critical platform to assess the outcomes of the Gender Desk
Officer (GDO) training held in late 2024 and early 2025 while charting strategic steps
forward.
Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, Head of the Civil Service, reinforced the need for
deliberate and sustained action to transform gender outcomes within the public
sector. He endorsed EPL Ghana’s “Women on the Rise” mentoring initiative,
recognising its potential to accelerate leadership development for women in public
service.

Key highlights included:
 Reports showing increased capacity among GDOs to mentor their peers.
 Recommendations to integrate simplified components of the Affirmative
Action Act into future trainings.
 A proposal by EPL Ghana to introduce a coaching and mentoring framework
tailored for women leaders in public institutions.
Members agreed to organise validation and sensitisation workshops on gender
mainstreaming SOPs in May 2025. OHCS pledged to provide disaggregated data on
female staff beneficiaries to support EPL Ghana’s reporting and impact
measurement.
