Equipping Public Servants for Gender-Responsive Governance: GDO Sensitisation Workshop Held in May 2025

On May 13, 2025, the National Gender Diversity Taskforce and the Civil Service Training Centre, in collaboration with EPL Ghana, held a sensitisation workshop to introduce the newly validated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for gender mainstreaming to Gender Desk Officers (GDOs).
Led by Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, Head of the Civil Service, the workshop aimed to equip GDOs with practical tools for integrating gender perspectives into public sector planning, budgeting, and service delivery.
Dr. Efua Turkson, EPL Ghana’s Gender Equity and Research Manager, presented the “Women on the Rise” project, emphasising its role in fostering leadership opportunities for women in the Civil Service.

Key sessions unpacked:
 The SOP’s content and institutional mandates.
 Reporting obligations and feedback loops.
 The mentorship role of Directors is to mentor at least two staff members, including at least one woman.
Discussions addressed funding mechanisms, accountability, and collaborative structures for GDOs. The workshop concluded with a firm commitment to building a national network of GDOs committed to gender equity and supporting senior leadership to embed inclusion within the Civil Service.
